Where To Find Cooling Centers In Joliet During Extreme Heat Wave

JOLIET, IL — Dangerous heat and humidity will hit Joliet this week, according to the National Weather Service, with highs well into the 90s and peak temperatures of up to 105 degrees daily.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory in Will County. Conditions are expected to get dangerously hot and humid starting Monday through late Wednesday, forecasters said.

"The magnitude of anticipated heat, combined with oppressive warmth at night will lead to hazardous conditions, particularly for the elderly and those with pre-existing health conditions," forecasters said.

For those looking to escape the heat and remain safe from the weather, the county operates cooling centers at the following locations:

• Daybreak Center - 611 E Cass St.
  • This location is only available by request
• MorningStar Mission - 364 E. Washington St.
• Senior Services of Will County - 251 N. Center St.

While forecasters advise staying indoors during this heatwave, people who must be outside are encouraged to exercise caution. Officials recommend drinking plenty of fluids and checking in on relatives and neighbors.
