Vernon Township Mental Health Board Awards $1 Million in Grants

The Vernon Township Community Mental Health Board (VTCMHB) has awarded $1,127,645 in FY27 grant funding to support 28 local agencies that provide services related to mental health, developmental and intellectual disabilities, and substance use to Township residents in need of these types of support. This year’s grants include two new recipients - Healing Arts & Science Association (HANSA) and Mothers Trust Foundation – and funding will help to expand access to critical services offered by these organizations, in addition to 26 returning agencies.

“All of the grants awarded since the inception of the Community Mental Health Board represent an investment in the health and well-being of our community,” said VTCMHB Board President Noelle Moore. “By partnering with these outstanding organizations, we're helping to ensure that Township residents have access to the resources and supportive services they need to thrive.”

In addition to grants, the VTCMHB works to raise awareness of local resources through its “Mental Health Minute” video and blog series, which can be found at VTCMHB.org. Created in partnership with grant recipients on a rolling basis, the series features practical tips and information on topics including children's mental health, healthy aging, developmental disabilities, substance use recovery and much more.

The Community Grants Program is a cornerstone of the Community Mental Health Board's mission to responsibly steward the Township's mental health tax dollars while expanding access to high-quality care. Organizations receiving funding must meet rigorous fiscal, administrative and service accountability standards – and demonstrate their ability to provide meaningful, measurable services to Township residents.

Previous recipients who again applied for, and received support include: Avenues to Independence, Cancer Wellness Center, Center for Enriched Living, Clearbrook, Erie Family Health Centers, GiGi's Playhouse in Deerfield, Glenkirk, Hanul Family Alliance, Homegrown Therapy Dogs, JCC Chicago, Josselyn Center, KAN-WIN, Lambs Farm, Little City Foundation, Nicasa Behavioral Health Services, OMNI Youth Services, Partners in Aging, Riverside Foundation, A Safe Place, Sanjeevani 4U, Shelter Inc., Special Recreation Association of Central Lake County, Stand Strong Coalition, Willow House, Youth & Family Counseling and Zacharias Sexual Abuse Center.
