Woman Killed In Crash While Crossing The Street In Lake Forest: Report

The driver who struck the 68-year-old Deerfield woman said he did not see her in the street, according to police.

LAKE FOREST, IL — A woman was struck and killed by a vehicle while walking in a posted crosswalk in downtown Lake Forest late last month, according to a report from the Lake and McHenry County Scanner.

First responders with the Lake Forest Police and Fire Departments responded to Oakwood Avenue on June 27 just before 1 p.m. after receiving a report of a pedestrian hit by a car.

Authorities told the Lake and McHenry County Scanner that the woman, who was identified as 68-year-old Deerfield resident Roberta Seedman, was crossing the street just north of Deerpath Road when an SUV struck her.

The driver told authorities that he had not seen Seedman in the street when he made a left onto Oakwood Avenue before the collision occurred. He stayed on scene to cooperate with the investigation, and police said they don't believe alcohol, drugs or a medical emergency were factors in the crash.

Seedman suffered severe injuries after she fell onto the roadway and struck her head on the pavement, authorities said. Paramedics transported her to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead five days later.
