The United Methodist Church of Libertyville (UMCL) invites the community to shop its Fall Rummage Sale on Friday, October 2, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday, October 3, from 9 a.m. to noon. Most items are priced at just $1, and Saturday is “bag sale day,” when shoppers can fill a bag for $5, or purchase items at half price.
Donations will be accepted Monday, September 28 through Wednesday, September 30, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at UMCL, 429 Brainerd Avenue in Libertyville. Donors should bring items to the Fellowship Hall door near the parking lot entrance off Elm Court. No large furniture, encyclopedias, or computers are accepted, and small appliances must be in good working condition.
Shoppers will find gently used clothing for the whole family, shoes, fashion accessories, household goods, small appliances, toys, crafts and hobby supplies, costumes, seasonal décor, baby items, books, and other one-of-a-kind finds.
The semi-annual sale is organized by United Women in Faith at UMCL, with proceeds benefiting local nonprofits that serve women and children. The church has hosted rummage sales for more than 60 years, connecting gently used goods with people who can use them at an affordable price, and helping local charitable organizations.
"I've been involved in the rummage sale for forty years," said Kathie Slocum, UMCL's rummage sale chair. "The sale gives people a chance to find something nice, pretty, or useful — not necessarily a 'must have' — while helping them save money on things they do need. Customers wait in line for an hour before we open, and then wait again to pay after shopping, and they rarely complain."
Admission is free. Limited parking is available on site behind the church, with additional public parking nearby in two parking structures — one at Lake Street and Brainerd Avenue, and another at Brainerd and Church Street. Shoppers are encouraged to arrive early for the best selection.
