1 Critically Injured In Two-Vehicle Crash In Peotone: Manhattan Fire Officials

One person had to be extricated from their vehicle following the crash at Center and Barr roads, officials said.

PEOTONE, IL — One person was critically injured Thursday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash in Peotone, Manhattan Fire Protection District officials said.

The crash occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m. north of the intersection of Center and Barr roads.

The critically injured patient was flown to an area Level I trauma center. Manhattan Fire Protection District paramedics treated a second patient at the scene and transported them to a
local hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

The Manhattan Fire Protection District (MFPD) responded to the crash and arrived within six minutes of the call for service. While crews were en route, dispatch reported that an occupant
was trapped inside one of the vehicles. Based on that information, the incident was upgraded to an extrication response, bringing additional personnel and LifeStar helicopter to the scene.

Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed that one patient required extrication. Crews stabilized the vehicles and safely removed the trapped patient while paramedics simultaneously assessed
and treated those involved. MFPD companies remained at the scene to secure the vehicles and assist with scene operations.

The intersection of Center and Barr roads will remain closed for an undetermined period of time.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area and use an alternate route.

The crash is under investigation by the Will County Sheriff’s Office.

The Frankfort and Monee Fire Protection districts provided assistance by covering Station 83 while MFPD crews operated at the crash.
