Thousands Of Pounds Of Pet Food Again Donated To Mokena's NAWS

MOKENA, IL — Mokena's NAWS has been gifted thousands of pounds of pet food, courtesy of a Plainfield business.

In April, TR Miller Heating, Cooling and Plumbing announced its Dog Dogs Of Summer pet food drive that would raise 10 pounds of pet food for every A/C
tune-up the company performed from April 15 to July 31.

The total raised amounted to 12,000 pounds, to be donated among three local area shelters: NAWS Humane Society (Mokena), A.D.O.P.T. Pet Shelter (Naperville), and Wags 2 Wishes Animal Rescue (Plainfield).

The food is split based off of the number of animals at each shelter, ensuring that each shelter gets the proper amount.

"Supporting our community, especially animal shelters, is a huge part of our DNA at TR Miller," said President Sloan. "It's a meaningful way to honor our mom, who was a passionate advocate for animal shelters."

The campaign holds a special meaning for owners and brothers Brian and Jimmy Sloan in remembering their mother, who spent years volunteering with local animal shelters before dying from cancer in 2023. Since starting the campaign in 2024, TR Miller has donated over 35,000 pounds of food.

"This whole partnership with TR Miller has been very beneficial for us because keeping expenses down is a huge thing for not-for-profits and food is a big one," said Becca Keller, Director of Development at NAWS.

"Keeping the animals fed and thriving until they get to their new home is so important."
