Gun Seized From Car At Naperville Top Golf, Cops Arrest Felon On Probation

NAPERVILLE, IL — A Richton Park man who was on probation for felony gun charges is accused of having a handgun in his car while it was parked at the Topgolf in Naperville Wednesday.

Jamon Roberts, 29, of the 22000 block of Millard Avenue, was charged with aggravated unlawful possession of a felon — prior felony conviction, unlawful possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and unlawful possession of a weapon without a Firearm Owners Identification card or Concealed Carry License.

Police say they were on foot patrol in the parking lot when they saw a firearm under the floorboard of a Volkswagen in the lot. After Roberts returned to the car, police used a squad car to prevent him from exiting the parking space.

An officer reported finding a loaded Glock 19 9mm handgun inside the car.

"The Naperville Police Department and my office are one hundred percent committed to keeping firearms out of the hands of those who are not legally allowed to possess them," DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement.

Berlin added, "In this case, as a convicted felon, Mr. Roberts is prohibited from legally owning a firearm. What I find particularly disturbing however, are the allegations that he was illegally in possession of a loaded firearm at a family-friendly recreation facility."

The 3211 Odyssey Court facility's parking lot saw more than a dozen gun arrests between 2023 and 2025.

Roberts is being held at DuPage County Jail and is scheduled to appear in court on June 30.
