New Lenox Couple's Personal Check Intercepted, Rewritten To $12,000: NLPD
The couple had sent personal checks to settle debts. One of the checks didn't reach its destination, according to police.
NEW LENOX, IL — A New Lenox husband and wife were targeted in a check washing incident, with a personal check mailed to pay off debts intercepted, according to New Lenox police reports.
Police were called June 17 to a home on Wirt Road, for a report of fraud.
The couple told police police they had mailed multiple personal checks to settle debts. They later received notice that the one of the companies had not received the payment.

They then learned the check had been altered to a different payee and cashed for $12,474.
The incident is under review for case closure or further investigation.
