Woman Loses $1,500 In Kitten Sale Scam: New Lenox Police Reports

NEW LENOX, IL — A New Lenox woman lost a little more than $1,500 in a scam involving a kitten sale, according to New Lenox police reports.

Police were called Aug. 21 to Shannon Lane, for a deceptive practices complaint. A woman told police she had posted a question on Facebook, inquiring if anyone was selling a particular breed of kitten.

The woman was then contacted by a person stating they were selling that breed of kitten. She was told to make several payments to the person for the kitten, a crate and delivery of the kitten.

The payments were made through Bitcoin and Apple gift cards, but the woman never received a kitten. A total of $1,561.27 was sent to the "seller" for the purchase of the kitten.

The incident is under review for further investigation or case closure.
