NILES, IL — Strong winds tore off a portion of the roof of a north suburban special education high school on Friday.

Walsh Academy, located at 6935 West Touhy Ave. in Niles, announced that part of its roof blew off due to wind gusts exceeding 55 mph.

The school will be closed until further notice.

"Walsh Academy is closed today due to weather-related damage from strong winds. The safety of our students and staff is our priority. We will provide updates as we assess the situation," officials said in a statement.

No injuries were reported.

A high wind warning is in place for most of the Chicago area, as gusts up to 60 mph are possible, according to the National Weather Service.
