Corvette Crashes Through Backyard; Grocery Shopper Pickpocketed: Northbrook Blotter

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of police activity, including incidents reported by the public and arrests made by officers. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state and may be dropped or reduced. Everyone arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

CORVETTE CRASHES THROUGH BACKYARD

Skye M. Conton, of Northbrook, was charged July 30 with reckless driving, driving too fast for conditions and disorderly conduct following an investigation into a July 21 crash in the 2300 block of Crabtree Lane.

Police said a 2025 Chevrolet Corvette went through a backyard, struck a tree and damaged several lawn items. No injuries were reported.

Conton initially told officers she did not know how the crash occurred, according to police. She was assigned an Aug. 20 court date.

SHOPPER DISTRACTED DURING PICKPOCKET THEFT

A shopper at a grocery store in the 100 block of Skokie Boulevard reported July 23 that two women approached her while she was shopping.

One of the women asked the shopper to reach for produce on a high shelf while the second stood near her purse. The shopper later discovered her cellphone and credit cards were missing.

The stolen cards were later used to make purchases at Old Orchard Mall, police said.

MORTGAGE CHECK STOLEN

A resident in the 1100 block of Whitfield Road reported July 23 that a check for $3,786.62 mailed to a mortgage company never arrived.

The resident’s bank determined that the check had been stolen in transit, altered to name a different payee and cashed.

BASEBALL EQUIPMENT TAKEN FROM VEHICLE

A resident in the 3200 block of Old Mill Road reported July 28 that someone entered an unlocked vehicle parked overnight in a driveway.

The person rummaged through the vehicle and stole baseball equipment valued at $700, police said.

AIR CONDITIONERS STOLEN

Loss-prevention employees at a hardware store in the 1000 block of Willow Road reported July 25 that a man entered the store July 9 and took two air-conditioning units to the return counter.

After employees refused the attempted return, the man walked out with the units and loaded them into a vehicle, according to police.

The air conditioners were valued at $338.

LIQUOR STORE THEFT

Employees at a liquor store in the 800 block of Sanders Road reported July 25 that several people entered the business and took merchandise.

After they left, a cashier noticed two bottles of alcohol were missing. The cashier confronted the group outside, but they became argumentative and fled in a black SUV before police arrived.

REVOKED DRIVER’S LICENSE

Michael Rockoff, of Chicago, was charged July 30 with driving with a revoked license following a traffic stop near Waukegan and Voltz roads.

Police said an officer stopped a 1997 Honda Accord displaying license plates reported stolen in North Carolina. The North Carolina agency did not seek charges involving the plates but requested that they be confiscated.

Rockoff was assigned a Sept. 8 court date.
