NSYMCA Launches Athletic Performance Training Program for youth and teens for 2026 and 2027 Season
New program helps youth participants build strength, speed, agility, and confidence through progressive training at an affordable cost

Northbrook, IL – September 2026 – The North Suburban YMCA is introducing two new athletic performance-based training programs designed to help participants build strength, coordination, agility, speed, mobility, and overall athletic performance.
Led by Roman Edingburg, Wellness Coordinator and Personal Trainer at the North Suburban YMCA, these progressive programs help athletes and non-athletes alike develop foundational movement patterns, balance, power, and injury-prevention strategies through structured, age-appropriate coaching. Whether preparing for an upcoming sports season, staying active during the off-season, or simply looking to improve overall fitness, participants will gain valuable skills that support long-term health and performance.
"Our goal is to help participants move better, feel stronger, and gain confidence in their abilities," said Edingburg. "Each session builds on the previous one, allowing participants to develop proper movement mechanics, improve performance, and reduce the risk of injury."
The YMCA encourages youth and teens to participate with friends, teammates, and fellow athletes. Training in a group setting creates a motivating environment that promotes accountability, teamwork, and skill development. All experience levels are welcome, and programs can be customized for specific teams or sports, including football, volleyball, basketball, lacrosse, baseball and more.
"Private athletic training can be expensive, often costing families hundreds of dollars each session," said Kathy Fielding, CEO of the North Suburban YMCA. "We wanted to provide high-quality, affordable training options that make performance coaching accessible to our community."
Participants must complete a one-time assessment for $30, prior to their first session to establish a baseline and ensure appropriate placement.
