OAK FOREST, IL — The Oak Forest Police Department is accepting applications for lateral officers.

Openings are immediate, the City of Oak Forest said.

Starting salary is $85,930, with top-out salary after 5 years at $129,482.

Applications are not available at the Oak Forest Police Department or City Hall. Applications must be received by July 24 at 4 p.m. There will not be a written exam as part of the application process, and there is no application fee.

Minimum Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. citizen;
  • You must be under the age of 49 years old at the last date of filing application (July 24, 2026);
  • You must possess a valid driver’s license at the time of application;
  • You must have proof of high school diploma, GED certificate or high school proficiency statement;
  • You must be a current full-time certified sworn law enforcement officer with a minimum of two (2) years with current department, in a municipality, county, university, or state law enforcement agency in the state of Illinois at time of appointment with Oak Forest; and
  • You must have no felony convictions and be of good moral character as described in State Statute 65 IL 5/10-2.1-6;
  • You do not need to live in the City of Oak Forest—no residency requirement;
  • You must be able to successfully complete all phases of testing, which may include a polygraph and psychological examination.

Applicants must attend the mandatory orientation and oral interview at Oak Forest City Hall at 15440 S. Central Avenue, Oak Forest, on Thursday, July 30 at 5 p.m. The oral interview will follow orientation. There is no written test.
