All Invited To Ceremony By The 9/11 Memorial Marking 25 Years Since Terrorist Attacks

OAK LAWN, IL—It is unbelievable to realize that 25 years have passed since that sunny, late-summer Tuesday morning when planes flew into the World Trade Center and crashed into the Pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania.

In recognition of the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, the Village of Oak Lawn will be holding a special remembrance ceremony in recognition of the first responders and citizens who lost their lives that terrible day.

Friday also marks 15 years since the dedication of the “Heralds of 9/11” by world-renowned sculptor Erik Blome on the tenth anniversary of the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2011.

Residents will start gathering at 9 a.m. by the stunning 9/11 first responders memorial at Oak Lawn-Patriot Metra Station, 9525 S. Tulley Ave. (behind Starbucks and the children’s museum). The program will begin at 9:11 a.m. The ceremony will be attended by Oak Lawn elected officials, police officers and firefighters. Teachers are encouraged to bring their classes.

The program will feature the Oak Lawn Community High School choir and Oak Lawn-Hometown Dist. 123 Sward Singers. The guest speaker will be retired Chicago Fire Department District Chief Glen Lyman. Lyman was one of thousands of firefighters who went to New York City in the aftermath of Sept. 11, 2001, and, with Oak Lawn Interim Fire Chief Patrick Kehoe, dug through the rubble of the fallen towers.

All are invited to take a few moments out of their Friday to remember how the country put aside its grudges and stood together in unity.
