Know Before You Go: St. Catherine Carnival Kicks Off Wednesday Through Sunday

The St. Catherine of Alexandria Carnival runs June 3 to June 7, featuring rides, games, raffles, bands and a beer garden in Oak Lawn.

OAK LAWN, IL—You know the South Side summer parish carnival is here when the St. Catherine of Alexandria Carnival kicks off for five fun-filled days, starting Wednesday, June 3, and continuing through Sunday, June 7, at 10621 S. Kedvale, Oak Lawn.

Now in its 42nd year, the St. Catherine carnival features rides, games, raffles, food, its famous beer garden and live entertainment. North American Midway Entertainment will be putting up the midway this week with rides for big folks and little folks.

The parish is offering some dandy prizes, including a $5,000 grand prize raffle, pull-tabs, split-the-pot, paddle games and daily bingo.

Children's activities include face painting and games in the Alexandria Center, along with daily bingo, for a small fee.

Daily unlimited ride wristbands will be available during the carnival at the ticket booth for $30.

There are three points of entry for the carnival: Kedvale driveway by the playground; Kedvale Alexandria Center doors; and the stairwell on Karlov.

Anyone under 18 entering after 8 p.m. will need to be accompanied by an adult.

Street parking is available, but please be kind (and quiet) to the neighbors.

There is no parking on the 10600 block of Kedvale.

Here are a few more tips to keep in mind from the dedicated carnival volunteers:

1. If you have a prepaid ride voucher, line up behind the ticket trailer under the black tent

2. Electronic payments are taken for the rides and beer garden tickets

3. Cash is needed for all food and games

4. There is an ATM on site, but it is not run by St. Catherine. Expect ATM fees, and the machine is frequently out of service.
