Man Found Dead From Gunshot Wound To Torso In Bridgeview

BRIDGEVIEW, IL—A man in his thirties was found fatally shot on the street early Monday in Bridgeview, police said.

Around 2:50 a.m., officers went to the 7800 block of South Oketo Avenue by the frontage road for a report of a "person down on the ground." A man with a gunshot wound to his torso was found in the street.

The man was treated and transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead.

Bridgeview police said there is no threat to the community. Due to the early hour, schools were not placed on soft lockdown, Bridgewiew Police Chief Rick Manch told Patch.

The incident prompted Indian Springs Dist. 109 Supt. Dr. Crystal Skoczlas sent out a message to parents of students at Bridgeview Elementary School.

“I wanted you all to be aware because this may cause alarm for some of our students and families as they are coming into school this morning,” the district superintendent said.

The South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force has been activated and police are investigating.
