Local Heritage and Folk Tunes
Join the Village of Orland Park and the Tinley Park Historical Society as we present two incredible folk music performances that are rich with local heritage in conjunction with the 250th Anniversary of the United States. Chris Vallillo is an award-winning folk musician who weaves original, contemporary and traditional songs and narratives into a compelling and entertaining portrait of the history and lifestyles of the Midwest. Vallillo has performed around the country, including the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum and Library, The Gettysburg National Battlefield Museum and the Abraham Lincoln Home National Historic Site.
The Farmer is the Man
Immerse yourself in Illinois’ rich agricultural history while listening to traditional folk songs on the site of Orland Park’s oldest farm property, Stellwagen Farm. From traditional songs like “The Farmer is the Man,” to the dust bowl ballads of Woody Guthrie, to the works of contemporary songwriters like Stan Rogers and farmer Chuck Sukay, the subject of farm life has long been fertile ground for folk musicians. Chris Vallillo has spent more than 35 years documenting the music of rural Illinois farmers, who are the backbone of both Orland and Tinley’s historic foundation.
After the show is over, tours of the historic farm property will be available. A petting zoo will also be on-site, as well as pioneer games, crafts and other activities.
