Gunshot Victim ID'd, No Charges Yet In 'Very Complex' Oswego Township Murder Investigation: Sheriff

A suspect who was detained ​Sunday was released without charges, pending further investigation, the Kendall County Sheriff's Office said.

OSWEGO, IL — Amid a "very complex" investigation, authorities have identified the 22-year-old man who was killed Sunday morning in unincorporated Oswego Township.

The victim was Luis Manuel Chauran Escobar, a 22-year-old from Valencia, Venezuela, the Kendall County Sheriff's Office and Kendall County coroner said in a joint update Thursday. Investigators confirmed his identity through a fingerprint analysis from Illinois State Police.

The man was found dead Sunday, hours after the sheriff's office was notified about a teen girl who had been shot earlier in the morning. Investigators believe the shooting happened between 8 and 10 a.m. Sunday and involved partygoers from Saturday's gathering at the home, Patch reported.

Chicago police notified the Kendall County Sheriff's Office Sunday afternoon of a 14-year-old girl who had suffered a gunshot wound to the leg. Investigators determined the girl had been struck by a bullet that morning at a home in the 0-99 block of Palomino Lane in Oswego Township, the sheriff's office said.

As the investigation remains ongoing, the sheriff's office is "pursuing every lead to ensure a thorough and complete investigation."

"This has been a very complex investigation thus far," Undersheriff Bobby Richardson said in a statement. "Though there is still much to be done, I want to acknowledge the work of our deputies and investigators in their efforts to conduct a detailed and thorough investigation of the circumstances surrounding this incident."

Investigators are looking to speak with anyone who attended the party Saturday night and who may have information, photos or videos related to the incident.
