Jim cherished his family, and his memory will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him.

James Michael “Jim” Will

James Michael “Jim” Will, age 73 of Joliet, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, October 8, 2026.Jim was born on December 15, 1952, in Joliet the son of the late John and Monica (nee Long) Will.

Jim attended St. Ray’s Grade School, where he was also an altar server. He graduated from Joliet Catholic High (JCA) before going onto Joliet Junior College. During his time at Joliet Junior College, he was drafted into the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. Following his return home from service, Jim began his career as an Electrician with IBEW Local Union #176 until his retirement in 2012.

Jim was an avid Chicago Cubs and Notre Dame fan. He could often be found outdoors, hunting and fishing, or playing a game of Poker. Jim loved to use his grill and always enjoyed a great steak.

James will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 53 years, Paulette Will; his children, John Daniel (Brandi) Will, Brian Paul Will, and Erin Colleen Will; and his grandchildren, Brady Will, Melene Will, Charlotte Will, and Nathaniel Will. He is also survived by his sisters and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, James P. Will; his parents, John and Monica Will; his sister; and his in-laws, John and Dolores White.

James leaves behind a legacy of generosity, creativity, and courage. Through the lives he touched and the family he cherished, his memory will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society or to any veteran charity of the donor’s choice.

A Memorial Gathering for James Michael “Jim” Will will be held on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. in Joliet from 9:00 a.m. until the time of prayers at 10:30 a.m., followed by a Memorial Mass at the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus, 604 N. Raynor, Joliet, IL, at 11:30 a.m. Inurnment will take place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery at a later date. As it was his request, cremation rites have been accorded.
