Longtime educator, civic leader and Crest Hill founding advocate dies at 94.

Jeanne K. Juricic, passed away at the age of 94 on Sunday, July 26, 2026.She was born June 5, 1932, to Sadie (nee Cerciello) and Bruno A. Kathen in Joliet, IL.Jeanne was a graduate of Joliet Township High School class of 1950, where she was an active member of the reunion committee for many years.She attended the University of Illinois in Champaign and earned a degree in Elementary Education from the College of St. Francis in Joliet, as well as her certification in Library Science.

On February 11, 1956, Jeanne married Raymond Juricic at the Church of St. Anthony in downtown Joliet.Soon after they made their home in Crest Hill and raised their four daughters.

A long-time teacher, Jeanne retired from Elwood School where she served as Librarian and in the classroom. Always active in her community, Jeanne volunteered her time and talents to many community organizations including past president and longtime member of the Crest Hill Women's Civic League, AARP Chapter 5294 and the Lockport Township Library Board, now White Oak Library District, and was a longtime parishioner of St. Ambrose Catholic Church.Jeanne was instrumental to the establishment of the City of Crest Hill in 1960 and in bringing library services to the City of Crest Hill.

Jeanne loved people and most-valued her time spent with family and friends.She was happiest with her family and loved hosting holidays in her home, spending winters in Gulf Shores, AL, weekends in Michigan City, and just being anywhere with her kids.She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

Jeanne is survived by her four daughters, Jill (Michael) Bush, Jane Paterson (Larry Niemi), Mary Sue (Jeff) Miller and Cathy Anne (Craig) Easly; grandchildren, Tricia (Kevin) McDermott, Jessica Rae (Aral) Michalow, Christopher Miller, Jason Miller, and Carrie (Kevin) Wolf; dear great-grandchildren, Brooke, Lorelei, Harley McDermott, and Remi and Luna Wolf; brother, Ernest (Jeannie) Kathen; niece, Heidi (Mike) Stonitsch; as well as great nieces and nephews, Cale, Kathen, and Maddox Stonitsch.

We are grateful for the kind and caring staff at Eden Vista Rock Run where Jeanne continued to meet new friends.

She is preceded in death by her devoted husband of 40 years, Raymond; and her parents.

Funeral Services for Jeanne K. Juricic will be held at 9:15 a.m. on Monday, August 3, 2026, from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd., Joliet, to the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus, 604 N. Raynor Ave, Joliet, where a mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home chapel on Sunday, August 2, 2026, from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m.

As Jeanne was an avid gardener, flowers are welcome and appreciated.
