Obituary: Robert B. Kalberg

Remembered for his dedication to his family, love of sports, loyal friendships, and the enthusiasm he brought to the things he enjoyed.

Robert B. Kalberg

Robert B. Kalberg passed away peacefully at the age of 71 on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.He was born on November 15, 1954, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of the late Kenneth and Ruth (nee LeVan) Kalberg.

Robert was a graduate of Maine South High School and went on to earn his Bachelor's Degree from Illinois State University. He enjoyed a long successful career in the printing industry, retiring as a Production Manager from Specialty Print Communications.

A lifelong lover of baseball, Robert played the game throughout his youth and continued competing in men's leagues well into adulthood. He was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and rarely missed an opportunity to follow his favorite team. He also trained in Tae Kwon Do and achieved his first-degree black belt following many years of training. In addition to baseball and Tae Kwon Do, he enjoyed spending time at the shooting range.

Robert shared a special passion for Siberian Huskies with his beloved late wife. Together, they devoted countless hours to showing their dogs, creating lasting friendships and treasured memories within the dog-show community.

Robert will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his love of sports, his loyal friendships, and the enthusiasm he brought to the things he enjoyed most. His memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.

Robert is survived by his children, Stacey (Jake) Pitts, Michael (April) Kalberg; grandchildren, Camden and Hayden Pitts, Mason, Noah, and Simon Kalberg; and sister, Sharon Ruth (fiancé Robert Jay Shelley) Kalberg Crabbe.Several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

He is preceded by his wife, Cynthia E. Kalberg; his parents; and one brother, Kenneth Kalberg.

A Memorial Gathering for Robert B. Kalberg will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd., Joliet, IL, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.As it was his request, cremation rites have been accorded.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to USA Baseball Foundation.
