20-Year-Old Woman Killed In Palatine Metra Train Incident Identified

Police temporarily closed North Smith Street near West Wood Street while authorities investigated Sunday afternoon.

PALATINE, IL — A 20-year-old Wisconsin woman died Sunday after being struck by a Metra train in downtown Palatine, authorities said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified the woman as Lana R. Crawford, of Elkhorn, Wisconsin.

Palatine police and Metra police responded to the incident near the 100 block of West Wood Street, according to an alert posted by the Village of Palatine at 4:42 p.m. Sunday.

Crawford was pronounced dead at Northwest Community Hospital at 4:48 p.m., according to medical examiner records.

North Smith Street was temporarily closed between West Wood and West Wilson streets while police investigated. The village later announced that the roadway had reopened.

Officials have not released additional information about the circumstances leading to the collision.

The medical examiner had not yet publicly listed Crawford's cause or manner of death.
