Fatal Shooting Being Investigated As Homicide, Victim ID'd: Palatine PD
The victim, who was found dead in his car Monday night, had driven his vehicle into multiple parked cars and a garbage dumpster.
PALATINE, IL — The shooting death of a 20-year-old man Monday night is being investigated as a homicide, according to Palatine police. The deceased has been identified as Kevin K. Koonce, 20, of Streamwood.
An autopsy conducted by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office has revealed Koonce died from a gunshot wound to the head.
Palatine police said Wednesday the active investigation is being coordinated with the Major Case Assistance Team.

According to police, officers responded to the 1200 block of East Prairie Brook Drive at around 9:39 p.m. Monday following reports of a vehicle striking multiple parked cars and a garbage dumpster.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a black Audi four-door vehicle at the location. Police said the Koonce, who was found seated in the driver's seat, had sustained an apparent gunshot wound. The Palatine Fire Department arrived at the scene to provide medical assistance to the victim. He was taken to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Following the incident, North Rand Road was closed between Route 53 and Dundee Road until 10:10 a.m. Tuesday. Motorists had been encouraged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes while police process the scene.
