Palatine To Mark 25 Years Since 9/11 With Memorial Ceremony

PALATINE, IL — The Village of Palatine will mark the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks with a memorial ceremony Friday morning in downtown Palatine.

The Patriot Day Memorial Ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. Sept. 11, at the Palatine Firefighters Memorial, at North Brockway and West Slade streets. The ceremony is expected to last about 30 minutes.

Village officials said the event will honor those who lost their lives in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, recognize the courage and sacrifice of first responders and reflect on the lasting impact of that day.

Members and retirees of the Palatine Fire Department will march to the memorial from Fire Station 85, 39 E. Colfax St., accompanied by the department's Honor Guard.

Members of the Palatine fire and police departments will lower the flag, place a wreath at the memorial and perform a ceremonial ringing of the bell to signify a firefighter's last call of duty.

The community is invited to attend.
