Mystery Charges, Credit Cards Opened, Cell Phones Hacked In Palos Hills ID Thefts

Palos Hills police fielded three separate walk-in complaints on the same day of identity theft, reports said.

PALOS HILLS, IL—Palos Hills police fielded three separate walk-in complaints on the same day of identity theft, reports said.

On April 15, a resident said their cell phone was hacked after noticing multiple fraudulent charges on their bank statements.

Another resident also came into the station to report that they received a Verizon bill for $677.39. The resident said they never had an account with the cellular company.

The final incident began with an email from Victoria’s Secret confirming that the resident’s order had been received. The resident clarified that they did not place an order with the lingerie company.

The resident contacted Victoria’s Secret and was advised that the purchase was completed through its financial services company. The purchase was completed with a credit card that had been opened through the associate. The resident said they never opened a credit card account.
