Power Lines Down All Over Palos Park After Severe Storms Pass Through

PALOS, IL—Live power lines are down throughout the Palos Park community after heavy storms passed through Palos Tuesday morning, leaving hundreds of area residents without power, Palos Park police said.

Downed wires have been reported at 125th Street and 80th Avenue, Wolf Road, and elsewhere throughout the village.

Wolf Road is completely closed between 131st Street and McCarthy Road in unincorporated Palos Township.

“Assorted wires down throughout the village,” said Chief Joe Miller, of the Palos Park Police Department. “If you are out driving, use extreme caution and be prepared for road closures.”

Chief Miller said officers will be out directing traffic and diverting motorists from street closures where downed wires have been reported.

Anticipating Tuesday’s severe weather forecasts, Palos Park police enacted its emergency accident report plan. Should you get in an accident where vehicles are still drivable and there are no injuries, drivers should exchange insurance information. Then come to the Palos Park police station, 8999 W 123rd St., and file an accident report.

“We’ve called in additional resources, including community service,” the chief said. “Our police officers are blocking streets for ComEd. We want to have officers available for basic 911 calls to maintain continuity of services.”

Deputy Chief John Parnitzke, of the Palos Heights Police Department, said the community fared better Tuesday than it has in previous storms this summer.

“We were prepared. I loaded a car with safety cones, but only one tree and one power line were reported down,” Parnitzke told Patch. “I drove down all the side streets. All the roads and streets [in Palos Heights] are passable.”
