55-Gallon Drum Of Sulfuric Acid Spills, Gets Cleaned Up In Plainfield: Fire Department
The drum carrying hazardous materials was punctured by a forklift as it was being removed from a truck, first responders said.
PLAINFIELD, IL — A 55-gallon tank of sulfuric acid spilled Tuesday morning in the 24000 block of 143rd Street in Plainfield, the Plainfield Fire Protection District said.
Crews determined a forklift punctured the drum while it was being unloaded from a truck, according to a news release. Firefighters received a 911 call at about 10:25 a.m. reporting the hazardous material spill.
The incident was contained to the immediate area, and first responders alerted an environmental cleanup contractor to manage the operation.

Officials said the spill posed no threat danger to nearby residents or businesses. The affected portion of the facility was temporarily shut down until the cleanup was completed.
No injuries were reported.
