Beloved Drive-Thru Coffee Shop Is Eyeing Lot In Plainfield

A favorite among the youth, the fast-growing nationwide coffee shop chain is looking to bring its popular beverages to Plainfield.

PLAINFIELD, IL — Dutch Bros Coffee, a drive-thru-only coffee shop chain popular among the youth, is eyeing a vacant lot in Plainfield.

A developer, Quattro Development, is looking to bring a 1,000-square-foot shop to the area near a subdivision south of Route 30 and west of Spangler Road. The Plan Commission is due to discuss the site plan for the business at its meeting Tuesday night.

Dutch Bros, with locations spanning the country, is known for its customizable, dessert-like beverages. Its clientele is largely under 25, and one-third of sales happen after 3 p.m., Patch previously reported.

In Plainfield, the coffee shop would consist of two drive-thru lanes and 21 striped parking spaces. The site already has shared right-in, right-out lanes, a drive aisle and a stormwater detention pond. The property connects to a multi-tenant commercial property to the west and a car wash to the east.

"The site plan is laid out in a way that not only maximizes the Subject Property's commercial and economic benefits, but that integrates various existing conditions," Stephen Broadwell, a planner with Plainfield, wrote in a memo.

The coffee chain is also set to open in Oswego, its first Kendall County location.

The first Dutch Bros in the Chicagoland location is due to open this year in Melrose Park, with plans to also expand to Oak Park, Buffalo Grove and Naperville. The company has already made a foray into downstate Illinois.

Plainfield appears to be a hotspot for popular drive-thru-only coffee shops. In November, Plainfield trustees unanimously approved plans to bring 7-Brew to the former Chili's space on South Route 59. 7-Brew also operates in Joliet, and it's one of the city's most popular destinations, so much so a second location is already brewing, Patch reported.
