D202 High School Artists Win Awards In Prestigious Art Shows

PLAINFIELD, IL — Plainfield high school students won top awards in two prestigious art competitions.

Twenty-two students from all four Plainfield Community Consolidated School District 202 high schools placed in the Scholastic Regional Art and Writing awards and the Lewis University High School Art Invitational.

Students in grades 7 through 12 can submit work across multiple categories of the Scholastic competition. Winners get their art published or exhibited by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers.

New this year, Scholastic "Gold Key" works will be considered for national-level recognition, which will be awarded later this spring. The top entries will be displayed this spring and summer as part of the organization’s national tour.

The ninth annual Lewis University High School Art Invitational comprises artwork in various media, including mixed media, sculpture, painting, drawing, photography, etching and digital illustration.

• Olivia Cavenaile, senior, drawing and illustration, Honorable Mention
• Isabella Platt, junior, photography, Honorable Mention

Plainfield South High School

• Amanda Smith, sophomore, drawing, Gold Key
• Molly Driscoll, senior, ceramics and glass, Gold Key
• Zoe Medina-Cardona, sophomore, drawing, Gold Key
• Amanda Ross, senior, ceramics and glass, Silver Key (Honorable Mention for sculpture, ceramics and glass)
• Natalie Abbott, junior, painting, Silver Key
• Gisele Flores, senior, digital painting and drawing, Silver Key
• Sienna Jeannides, freshman, drawing, Honorable Mention
• Crystal Ibarra, early graduate, ceramics and glass, Honorable Mention
