Man, 18, Accused Of Shooting Boy, 16, In Downtown Plainfield: Police

PLAINFIELD, IL — An 18-year-old man was taken into custody Tuesday in connection with a shooting on July 16 on Main Street in downtown Plainfield, police said Wednesday.

Ahmaad Sheppard, 18, faces multiple felonies after police said he shot a 16-year-old boy around 8:51 p.m. that Thursday in the 24100 block of Main Street, just west of the DuPage River.

Officials believe the incident was targeted. Detectives determined Sheppard, of Plainfield, arranged a meeting with the victim and forcibly took his money, police said. He then showed a gun, and after a brief altercation, shot the boy, officials said in a news release.

Members of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force apprehended Sheppard Tuesday at the Amazon warehouse on West Bluff Road in Channahon, police said.

The teen was charged with armed robbery involving discharge of a firearm, aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated battery involving discharge of a firearm, illegal possession of ammunition, unlawful vehicular invasion, and aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon in a vehicle without a Firearm Owner's Identification card, according to jail records.

Plainfield police said Sheppard failed to comply with officers' orders during the booking process and was subsequently charged with obstructing justice.

Sheppard remains in custody at the Will County jail as of Wednesday afternoon.
