The Illinois 4-H Green Communities Tree Program, in partnership with the Lake County 4-H, Soil and Water Conservation District, and Round Lake Park District, is working to rebuild our native ecosystem.
Did you know that Illinois once had 14 million acres of trees, but now only has 5 million due to modern development? Illinois 4-H is partnering with Illinois Soil and Water Conservation Districts to plant oak trees across dozens of counties in Illinois this spring, and we need YOUR help!
We will be planting fire-resistant, native oak species in public spaces for the community to enjoy. These 25-tree savannas will help rebuild our native ecosystems, 3/4 of an acre at a time.
