Seil Road Bridge: What Seil Road Bridge? Shorewood Shares Photos, Timeline For Village's Top Project

SHOREWOOD, IL — In an effort to remind the residents of Shorewood that substantial progress is being made, the village of Shorewood shared out several construction photos this week regarding the community's most important transportation project — our Seil Road Bridge.

Joliet Patch last wrote about the project in March when the Seil Road Bridge was officially shut down and closed off to vehicle traffic.

"Bridge demolition is underway for the Seil Road and Bridge Reconstruction project. We snapped some photos of the demolition process to give you a look at the progress!" the village shared on Facebook this week.

Perhaps not surprisingly, several of Shorewood's residents took to the village's Facebook page to share their sentiments and feedback regarding this project.

Connor wrote: "This is taking way too long. Too many days where absolutely nothing is being done."

"This is what 3 months of work looks like?" wrote Todd.

"Because too much $$$$$$$$$ was offered/paid before we had a chance to say anything just like the data centers. The public is not informed until everyone is paid and then they have to do the 'public hearing' to make it 'legal,' remarked Daniel.

"The construction sat stagnant for over a month …. Just last week they started working again. Residents on Sarver, Canterbury and Louis don’t hate the constructions because the lack of traffic is wonderful!!! And people (that) recklessly speed down our roads have been minimal which is a true delight!" replied Monica.

"It’s driving me crazy. First I can’t use it to get to 80. Now I can’t use it for one of my running routes," Diana responded.

According to the village of Shorewood fact sheet: In February, IDOT awarded the Seil Road and Bridge Reconstruction Project to Austin Tyler Construction. The scope of the $9 million project includes constructing a new bridge with pedestrian access, new storm sewers, streetlights and a mixed-use path. It also includes changing Seil Road from a 2-lane, rural cross-section to a 3-lane rural cross-section and adding two mini roundabouts.

Construction is scheduled to begin in Spring 2026 and will be completed in June 2027.

"We recognize that a project of this scale will impact many residents and appreciate your continued patience as we work to complete this essential infrastructure improvement," Shorewood noted.
