Kane County Sheriff Remains Away From Work, Reason Unclear
Undersheriff Amy Johnson has continued overseeing the department as officials decline to discuss the sheriff's ongoing absence.
KANE COUNTY, IL — Kane County Sheriff Ron Hain has been away from the sheriff’s office for months, but county officials have not publicly disclosed why he has not returned to work.
The Daily Herald is reporting Hain was hospitalized in April, according to a memo sent to sheriff’s office employees. Undersheriff Amy Johnson has continued overseeing the department during Hain’s absence.
The Daily Herald reached out to Johnson last week and their message was forwarded to Kane County State's Attorney Jamie Mosser.

“By law and policy, we are not able to publicly disclose details related to personnel matters, including whether or not a person is on a leave of absence.,” Mosser told the Daily Herald in an email response.
Hain, who was first elected sheriff in 2018 and is not seeking reelection this year, has not publicly discussed his status.
