State Police Sergeant Sexually Assaulted Bartender, Left Her Unconscious In Car: Court Documents

TINLEY PARK, IL — A bartender at Durbin's in Tinley Park told police she believed she had been drugged and sexually assaulted by an Illinois State Police sergeant and bar regular she'd encountered during her shift in Aug. 2025, according to court documents.

Douglas Lee, 54, of Tinley Park, was arrested July 30 in connection with the Aug. 2, 2025 incident, police announced Monday.

In court documents from the Cook County State's Attorney's Office, the victim's account details how she'd seen Lee during her shift at the bar, gone dancing with girlfriends afterward, with Lee tagging along, and then woke up in her car the next morning with no knowledge of how she'd gotten there. Her leggings were on inside out, her bra was next to her on the passenger seat and her shirt was "tucked into her jacket pocket," according to court documents.

The filing notes that the victim then went to use the bathroom and discovered semen inside her vagina.

She "panicked because she did not recall having sexual intercourse," according to court documents. She reportedly
"completely blacked out and remembered nothing after dancing" with friends. One friend with her that night told the victim she'd been dancing with Lee.

The victim told police she'd taken three shots over the course of her 14-hour shift and three more afterward with bar regulars. At around 12:45 a.m., she and a group of her girlfriends walked down the street to nearby Hollstein's, with Lee asking to come along, according to court filings. The woman remembered Lee purchasing her a shot and a seltzer drink at the bar, prosecutors said.

According to court documents, video surveillance from inside the bar shows Lee and the victim interacting at Hollstein's before leaving hand-in-hand around 1:30 a.m. They were seen walking together to a fountain nearby, where the victim nearly fell over, and Lee reportedly lifted her to her feet. The two then left in an SUV registered to Lee, prosecutors allege.

The next day, the victim questioned Lee, who told her she'd left her vape pen in his car. When he met with her to drop it off, the woman questioned Lee about the night's events.

Lee reportedly asked the victim if she was "questioning his manhood," and that "everything was consensual," according to court documents.

Prosecutors said the woman asked if he'd put anything in her drink, saying she was not sure if she was drugged since she did not remember everything, and he told her he'd taken her to a hotel and then later left her in her vehicle because she could not drive.

In preserved text messages exchanged between the victim and Lee, prosecutors said Lee acknowledges having intercourse with the victim, also acknowledging the "state" she was in.

A rape kit produced insufficient materials to be compared against another DNA sample, prosecutors said. A urine screen tested positive for THC, barbiturates and cocaine. The victim had a THC vape pen but told police she did not know how the cocaine or barbiturates ended up in her system, according to court documents.

Flock camera footage showed Lee took the victim to a hotel; no footage from inside the hotel was available, but records show Lee used the same credit card used at the bar to pay for a room, prosecutors said.

Detectives obtained a search warrant for a buccal swab from Lee. Male DNA, with a positive comparison from Lee's swab, was found on the waistband of the woman's leggings, prosecutors said.

Male DNA was found on the vaginal swab from the rape kit, but there was not enough DNA present to test against another DNA sample, prosecutors said.

Lee was subsequently charged with felony criminal sexual assault of a victim unable to give knowing consent. He appeared in Cook County court on Aug. 1 and was ordered detained.

A spokesperson for ISP said Monday that Lee has been employed with the agency since 2004 and is currently on administrative leave without pay. The agency said it is conducting an internal investigation.
