Teen Boy Charged With Felonies In Connection With Swatting Call: Tinley PD

TINLEY PARK, IL — A teenage boy was charged Friday afternoon in connection with a swatting incident that took place last month, police said.

Police responded to a home in the 16400 block of Bormet Drive the morning of July 1 after receiving a report that a man had shot family members inside the house and was threatening to shoot responding officers.

When police arrived, the man came out of his home holding a handgun, and officers ordered him to drop it, which he did. Police safely took him into custody without anyone getting hurt.

Police determined that no one inside the home had been injured and that the man had been the victim of a swatting call, which involves someone making a false emergency report intended to generate a large police response to an unsuspecting person's location.

As part of the ongoing investigation, police executed a search warrant Friday morning at the boy’s home and took him into custody in connection with the incident.

Tinley Park police charged him with two counts of felony disorderly conduct—one false report of offense, and one false request for an ambulance, police said Friday.
