The Wheaton College Conservatory of Music presents the Kevin Brown Quintet in concert at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, December 7. For ticket information, visit tickets.wheaton.edu.
Following the release of Adventus on Jeru Jazz Records in 2025, guitarist and Wheaton College faculty member Kevin Brown returns with modern reinterpretations of traditional music for the Advent and Christmas seasons. Audiences will hear selections from Adventus alongside new works the quintet is developing for a Christmas-themed follow-up album planned for 2027. Selected as the #2 album of 2025 by Steven Grady of CHIRP Radio, Adventus inspired Grady to write, “The answer to the question, ‘Can Christmas sound hip?’ is a resounding yes!” The concert will also feature live documentary painting by artist Lewis Achenbach.
Part of the Faculty Artists Series at Wheaton College, the performance will take place in the Concert Hall of the Armerding Center for Music and the Arts, located at 520 E. Kenilworth Ave. on Wheaton’s campus. For more information, contact the Conservatory of Music at 630.752.5010.

Meditations and Lamentations featuring Leonardo Garcia Altino brings together powerful works for solo cello by Johann Sebastian Bach, György Kurtág, Sofia Gubaidulina, and Zoltán Kodály, exploring reflection, sorrow, and spiritual searching. At its center is the idea of the cello as a solitary voice, capable of prayer-like stillness as well as profound emotional intensity. The program invites listeners into a deeply reflective and intimate musical experience shaped by the expressive depth of these works.
This concert is part of the Faculty Artists Series at Wheaton College and will take place in the Recital Hall of the Armerding Center for Music and the Arts at 520 E. Kenilworth Ave. on Wheaton's campus.

The Sexual and Gender Identity Institute at Wheaton College presents " 2026 SGI Biennial Lecture Presents Faith and Sexuality: The Unstable Reclamation of Language," a lecture by Gregory Coles on Tuesday, October 6, 2026 at 7:00 PM. 7:00pm to 8:00pm Reception to follow.


The words “gay,” “evangelical,” “queer,” and “Christian” all feature prominently in today’s conversations about Christian faith and sexual identity. These four words share something else in common: Each has functioned as derogatory (or been declared derogatory) at some point in its history. To make sense of their current functions, then, we must also grapple with their reclamations—social movements designed to erase derogation and make a word neutral or honorific. Taken together, these four reclamation stories offer insight into the intersection of faith and sexuality, the instability of our words, and the undergirding stability of the Word. Gregory Coles is the author of Sexuality Beyond Sex (IVP, 2026); The Limits of My World (Walking Carnival, 2023); No Longer Strangers (IVP, 2021); and Single, Gay, Christian (IVP, 2017). He holds a PhD in English from Penn State and lives in Boise, Idaho, where he works as a freelance writer, editor, and language scholar. Greg is Senior Research Fellow at The Center for Faith, Sexuality &amp; Gender. The Wheaton College Department of Philosophy presents a lecture by Dr. Andrew Chignell ’96, Laurance S. Rockefeller Professor of Religion at Princeton University, titled “What to Do When You Don’t Make a Difference: Moral Arguments for God and Other Hope-Sustaining Things" on Thursday, October 1 at 7:30 PM.
Dr. Andrew Chignell ‘96 is a professor in the University Center for Human Values at Princeton University, with appointments in the Religion and Philosophy departments. From 2020 to 2023, he was the president of the North American Kant Society, and in 2024 he co-organized the yearlong Virtual Kant Congress in honor of Kant’s 300th birthday. He has also held teaching positions at Cornell University and the University of Pennsylvania. And fun fact: he will be at Wheaton celebrating his 30th reunion the weekend just after this lecture.

His research focuses mostly on Immanuel Kant and other 17th-19th century philosophers, as well as on philosophy of religion, the ethics of belief, and certain issues in aesthetics and moral psychology (especially hope and despair). He also has a teaching interest in food and animal ethics.

What to Do When You Don’t Make a Difference: Moral Arguments for God and Other Hope-Sustaining...

The Wheaton College Department of Philosophy presents a lecture by Dr. Andrew Chignell&nbsp;’96, Laurance S. Rockefeller Professor of Religion at Princeton University, titled “What to Do When You Don’t Make a Difference: Moral Arguments for God and Other Hope-Sustaining Things" on Thursday, October 1 at 7:30 PM.
&nbsp;Chignell writes, "It is easy to become demoralized in the face of massive, structural evils that suggest that our individual moral efforts will almost certainly be inefficacious. The goal of this talk is to explore the challenge that such futility poses to our moral resolve in a variety of contexts, and to argue for an approach that is non-consequentialist at bottom -- but still sensitive to the role that consequences play in our moral psychology. My view is inspired by Immanuel Kant’s 'moral argument' for the existence of God and the afterlife, though it departs from Kant at a few key junctures. Along the way I examine several different accounts of what it means to 'make a difference' and then articulate my own.”&nbsp;Andrew Chignell ’96 is Laurence S. Rockefeller Professor in the University Center for Human Values at Princeton University, with appointments in the Religion and Philosophy departments. A graduate of Wheaton College and Yale University, he previously taught in the Philosophy departments at the University of Pennsylvania and Cornell University. His work focuses on the philosophy of Immanuel Kant and related early modern figures, the philosophy of religion, the ethics of belief, and the moral psychology of hope and despair. From 2020-2023 he served as President of the North American Kant Society. Together with (fellow Wheaton grad!) Matthew Halteman and Terence Cuneo, he is the co-editor of Philosophy Comes to Dinner&nbsp;(2016). His open online course “Food Ethics” is available on Coursera. St. Sophia's Forgotten Felines

he cats we care for at St. Sophia’s come from many different places. The majority of the cats we help are those that are helpless, who have not experienced love or a home, stray, abused, and neglected cats. Primarily we work with high-volume/high-kill animal controls to save cats from needless euthanasia. Our largest partner is Chicago Animal Care and Control. Other ACs we partner with are Aurora, Joliet Township, DuPage, Herrin, Marion, Quincy, Tilton, Union, Jasper, and Whiting. St. Sophia’s also works with local Trap-Neuter-Return organizations. Trap-Neuter-Return (also known as TNR) is a method of humanely trapping unaltered feral cats, neutering them, and releasing them back to the same environment where they were originally found. TNR is promoted by proponents as a humane and more effective alternative for managing and reducing feral cat populations (compared to euthanasia). While most cats trapped are completely feral (wild, without any domestic socialization), some cats—often kittens, or even adults that have been well cared-for outdoors—can, and have, become socialized and adoptable. TNR organizations aren’t equipped to handle the “friendlies” that come in, so we step in to assist those cats looking for homes. Lastly, some of our cats are direct owner surrenders. Sometimes circumstances have it that people are unable to care for their cats due to moving, eviction, financial issues, death, allergies, etc. We accept these cats in when we have space and maintain a waiting list of those who need assistance.
