Law Enforcement Scams Continue To Target Residents In DuPage County: Sheriff's Office

DUPAGE COUNTY, IL — Law enforcement impersonation scams are still on the rise, according to the DuPage County Sheriff's Office (DSCO). The sheriff's office is urging residents to be on the lookout for the different types of these scam calls that have been reported.

The scam callers have been known to pose as agents from the sheriff's office or other members of law enforcement. The caller will often use the name of a real agent to confuse the victim.

According to DCSO, the scammer may tell the victim they missed jury duty or a court appearance or have an outstanding warrant for their arrest. Scammers may also say one of the victim's relatives has been taken into custody and needs money.

Residents who think they are being targeted in a law enforcement scam should hang up the phone immediately. They can call the DuPage County Sheriff's Office at 630-407-2400 to verify the call or report the incident to the Federal Trade Commission.
