Lightning Strike Causes Fire In Wheaton Home

A lightning strike during Friday night's stormy weather caused a Wheaton home to catch fire.

WHEATON, IL — Lightning struck a home in Wheaton Friday night, causing the house to catch fire.

The Wheaton Fire Department received a call around 9:45 p.m. reporting a blaze in the 1400 block of Wendover Lane. When firefighters got to the scene, they found heavy fire on the roof of the building.

Hoses were used to fight the fire from the second floor inside the home. Fire crews were able to contain the flames to the attic of the house before extinguishing the blaze in about 20 minutes.

Damage from fire and water caused the house to be deemed uninhabitable.
