Over 60 Tickets Issued During Increased Traffic Patrols In DuPage County
The increased patrols were part of a statewide safety initiative that coincided with the Memorial Day holiday.
WHEATON, IL — The DuPage County Sheriff's Office issued 63 citations to drivers during a recent traffic safety campaign that coincided with the Memorial Day holiday.
The increased patrols, which focused on seatbelt safety, began May 15 and concluded May 26.
In addition to the traffic citations, deputies arrested one person for driving under the influence and another driver for aggravated speeding.

Here's a breakdown of all the citations:
- 18 speeding tickets
- 10 distracted driving tickets
- 8 seatbelt tickets
- 6 tickets for driving without insurance
- 4 tickets for driving with expired plates
- 1 ticket for driving with a suspended or revoked license
- 1 ticket for disobeying a stop sign
- 15 tickets for miscellaneous traffic violations
“Thanks to the efforts of our officers, more drivers and passengers were reminded to buckle up, helping to prevent injuries and save lives,” DuPage County Sheriff James Mendrick said in a statement.

He added, “Every citation and safety
check reinforces the message that seat belts work.”
The campaign was part of the statewide "Click It or Ticket" initiative.
