Obituary: William E. "Bill" Sytko

A longtime Joliet resident and proud member of the Teamsters Local 705 and Local 710 passes away at age 87.

Obituary was published and funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home and Crematory​.

William E. "Bill" Sytko

William E. "Bill" Sytko age 87, of Joliet, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at his home. He was born on October 11, 1938, in Chicago to Edmund and Victoria (Radziwilla) Szczytko.

Bill was born and raised on the South Side of Chicago and graduated from St. Rita High School. For over 30 years, Bill drove a tanker semi-truck and was a proud member of the Teamsters Local 705 and Local 710. In his free time, he could often be found fishing in nearby ponds or playing golf.

Bill is survived by his beloved daughters, Laurie (Andrew) Haverkate and Vicki (Christopher) Ehrsam; loving grandchildren, Stephanie (Tyler) LaFlamme, Sydney Ehrsam, Erik Haverkate, Sophie Ehrsam and his great-granddaughter, Emilia Jean LaFlamme.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 54 years, Carol Jean (nee Draus) Sytko.

Visitation for William E. “Bill” Sytko will be held on Friday, June 26, 2026, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd., Joliet, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at the funeral home chapel with prayers at 9:00 a.m. to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 2500 Arbeiter Rd., Joliet, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Risen Lord Cemetery in Oswego, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name can be made to the American Cancer Society or Breakthrough T1D (formerly JDRF).
