Popular Pet Food Brands Recalled Due to Salmonella Threat

Both dog and cat foods are included in the recall of select Iams and Eukanuba products.

Procter & Gamble recalled several dozen lots of dry pet foodΒ Wednesday due to a risk of salmonella contamination.

The pet foodβ€”both dog and cat varietiesβ€”was distributed nationwide. Certain types of Eukanuba and Iams foods are included in the recall.

There are not yet any reports of animals or people getting sick from the pet food, Procter & Gamble said in a statement.

Pets could become ill from eating the food, while humans are at risk if they handle the food without properly washing their hands afterward.

Salmonella symptoms in people include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, cramping and fever. Infected pets might be lethargic and have a decreased appetite, though they may also suffer from diarrhea and vomiting. The infection can transfer between humans and animals.
