Baltimore Father Charged After 1-Year-Old Dies In Hot Car: Police

BALTIMORE, MD — A 32-year-old man has been arrested after his 1-year-old son died from heat exposure after being left unattended inside a family vehicle in Baltimore, police said.

Yaakov Reichman, 32, turned himself in to Baltimore police on Monday in connection with the July death of his son, 1-year-old David Reichman. Police confirmed Reichman was the toddler's father in a statement sent to The Baltimore Sun.

According to police, officers were called to the 6200 block of Greenspring Avenue around 1:40 p.m. on July 16 for a report of an unconscious child. When officers arrived, they found David unresponsive, and medics were unable to resuscitate him, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators determined the child had been left unattended in the family vehicle before being discovered by his parents, according to police.

The Maryland Office of the Chief Medical Examiner later determined David died from hyperthermia, or heat exposure.

Police did not say how long the child was inside the vehicle or provide additional details about the circumstances surrounding his death.

Reichman was taken to the Central Booking Intake Facility, where he was charged with involuntary manslaughter.
