City of Baltimore: Charm'tastic Day 46th Anniv. (1980) of Harborplace Opening, 4th of July USA 250th

July 2, 2026 - The "Charm'tastic Mile" of Baltimore (CTMB-1.3) www.thecharmtasticmile.com. The chic & famed 1.3 mile corridor located in the heart of Charm City (Est.1975) that connects Dwtn-West, the Inner Harbor & Harbor East (S. Greene & W. Pratt Street to S. President & Fleet Street) that is now listed on Google search as one of the Top 10-15 Most Famous Streets in America is reporting 46-years ago today Harborplace and its two-pavilions opened up to masses.

Today July 2, 2026 is the 46th Anniversary (7-2-1980) of the Grand Opening of Harborplace. The much-anticipated event was seen by over 250,000 on its opening day alone. Baltimore was nicknamed Charm City 5-years earlier, shined and ushered in a New-Era that would make downtown a tourist & travel destination. Harborplace created jobs for some city residents that were unemployed. Many of them were excited to have a paycheck and contribute to something new.

Then Mayor William Donald Schaefer christened the opening of the Inner Harbor & Harborplace. His Iconic statue was unveiled on November 2, 2009 to honor his 88th birthday. It is situated steps from the Inner Harbor Visitor Center.

Phillips Seafood www.phillipsseafood.com is the only remaining store/restaurant left from 1980. Their Light Street pavilion restaurant with its piano player, Seafood Basket & Crab Cakes, were the lead-anchor of Harborplace for decades. In the first three months, 7 million people visited Harborplace. Phillips (since 2011) is now located on 601 E Pratt Street centrally on The "Charm'tastic Mile"

The Hyatt Regency-Baltimore would open 16 months later in October 1981 and served as a major hotel backdrop to Harborplace. The Baltimore Convention Center opened a year earlier in Charm City in 1979. Back in 1980 the Baltimore Orioles & Colts both played at Memorial Stadium. 2026 marks the 35th Anniversary (1991) of the O's playing their last-season at Memorial Stadium.
