Harford's EMPOWERED Expo Connects Teens, Young Adults with Differing Abilities and Families to Resources

The expo helped 150+ young adults with differing abilities and families connect, plan, and take steps toward independence.

Harford County hosted its biennial EMPOWERED Expo on Saturday, April 11 at Bel Air High School. This FREE conference provided resources for over 150 teens and young adults with differing abilities and their families as they plan their journey to adulthood.

“Harford County is committed to ensuring every resident has the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential,” County Executive Bob Cassilly said. “Events like the EMPOWERED Expo connect families with essential tools, resources, and guidance, all in one place, to help young adults take meaningful steps toward independence and long-term success.”

The expo targeted teens and young adults with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 Plans. More than 45 local exhibitors offered a vast array of services and several workshops on topics including executive functioning skills, understanding ABLE accounts, guardianship and alternatives, and employment opportunities - plus eligibility and services from the Developmental Disability Administration and Supplemental Services Insurance.

The Harford County Office of Disability Services would like to thank the expo sponsors including APG Federal Credit Union; The Arc Northern Chesapeake Region; Richcroft; Virtuous; Loving Support Center; Healing Hearts Therapeutic Services; Jensen & McComas; The Curran Knittle Group; The Harford Center; Favored Angels; Edward Jones; Enfield Locke Care; Supreme Support System; and Aspire Living & Learning; and Harford County Public Schools’ Office of Special Education.
