Pot Of Burned Food Sparks Apartment Fire In Aberdeen

ABERDEEN, MD — Two fires broke out different apartments Tuesday in Aberdeen.

According to the fire department, a fire broke at an apartment complex in the 1300 block of South Philadelphia Boulevard Tuesday morning in Aberdeen.

Then another apartment fire was reported at a complex in the 100 block of Hanover Street in Aberdeen. Investigators reported a pot of food that had burned and sparked the fire alarms.

Cooking happens to be the No. 1 cause of home fires and home injuries, according to officials, and unattended cooking is the main source of home cooking fires, particularly on a range.

Here are some tips from the Harford County, Maryland Volunteer Fire & EMS:

• Stay in the kitchen when you are frying, boiling, grilling or broiling food.
• If you are simmering, baking or roasting food, check it regularly and stay in the kitchen while the food is cooking.
• Use a timer to remind you that you are cooking.
• Keep anything that can catch on fire - like oven mitts, food packaging, towels or wooden utensils - away from your stovetop.
