Charlestown Community Comes Together for Earth Day Tree Planting

In recognition of Volunteer Month and Earth Day, residents and team members at Charlestown, a continuing care retirement community developed and managed by Erickson Senior Living in Catonsville, MD, came together to make a meaningful environmental impact.

More than 40 dedicated volunteers, partnering with Charlestown's ground supervisor, Adam Narivanhik, and the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, led by resident Ron Hendrickson, planted more than 50 trees on the campus. This hands-on initiative not only enhances the community's natural beauty but also reinforces a shared dedication to sustainability and service.

Volunteerism plays an important role in the lives of many older adults. According to research from the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) and NationSwell, older Americans are among the country’s most active volunteers, with over 25% dedicating their time annually. For many seniors, volunteering enhances social connections, supports mental health, and improves overall well-being.
