Make Your Dream Retirement A Reality at Charlestown
Fred and Barbara Sadler are enjoying all the amenities and activities at Charlestown, exceeding all their expectations for retirement

When Fred and Barbara Sadler first visited Charlestown, an Erickson Senior Living community in Catonsville, Md., they discovered a vibrant community that exceeded all their expectations.
"I was attracted to Charlestown because it had a nice campus and a strong sense of belonging. We were pleasantly surprised by how friendly and welcoming everyone was," says Barbara.
Now, five years later, Fred and Barbara are more engaged and connected at Charlestown than they ever thought possible.

"We have made many friends, and there are so many options to choose from," says Barbara, pointing to the community's 300-plus clubs and groups.
Freed from the burdens of homeownership, like mowing lawns, raking leaves, and ongoing repairs, residents have more time to participate in activities, make new friends, and enjoy an array of on-site amenities.

"We often hear from residents, 'I wish I had moved sooner,'" says Sales Director Matt Dougherty. "It's incredibly rewarding to hear how moving to Charlestown has improved residents' quality of life."
The right fit
When the Sadlers began making plans for retirement, they looked for a senior living community that would offer a simpler, worry-free lifestyle and peace of mind for the future.
Charlestown's monthly service package--which bundles the costs of most utilities and maintenance, including appliance repairs and replacement, into one predictable bill--was a real draw.
"We found Charlestown to be competitively priced," says Barbara. "The monthly [service package] covers a number of things we would have had to pay for separately in our house. Charlestown offers us security and a living situation that does not involve home or yard maintenance."
The community's array of amenities, including a fitness center, creative arts studio, hair salon and barbershop, and library, were an added benefit.
Initially, Fred and Barbara were planning on waiting up to two years for a residence with a sunroom. To their surprise, just four months after joining Charlestown's Priority List, they received a call.
"This apartment home had just opened up and once we saw it, we were sold," says Barbara.
A vibrant lifestyle
Since moving to Charlestown, Fred and Barbara have maintained a vibrant, social lifestyle filled with fun activities and new friends.
Fred joined a Friday afternoon board game group, sings with the Harmonizers choral group, and serves on the Residents' Council. Barbara volunteers, plays mah-jongg with neighbors, and participates in a caregivers' support group.
Together, they enjoy walking around the community, exercising at the fitness center, and dining at the on-campus restaurants--activities that have made them more active and connected than ever before.
"Dining with friends together is one of our favorite parts of life at Charlestown," says Barbara. "Not having to worry about meal preparation has been a wonderful change for both of us."
Residents can enjoy appetizers and sandwiches at the Short Line Cafe, a fast-casual venue, and comfort food paired with favorite beers and wines at the bar at The Chesapeake. Full-service restaurants like The Chesapeake, The Atrium, and The Fireside are great places for friends to meet for dinner.
And thanks to Charlestown's Signature Dining program, made-to-order menu items change on a regular basis--something Fred and Barbara never expected of a retirement community.
Don't wait!
For anyone considering a move to Charlestown, Fred and Barbara offer some practical advice. "Make the decision to move while you are able to enjoy the many amenities available," says Barbara.
Dougherty and his team see firsthand how Charlestown enriches residents' lives every day.
"One of the best parts of our job is encountering residents throughout the community, seeing them flourish, and receiving their gratitude for helping them enjoy a more meaningful retirement," says Dougherty. "They are making new friends, joining activities, and being more active than they ever expected."
He adds, "If this sounds like the ideal retirement for you, consider joining the Priority List. It's your best chance of securing the floor plan you want!"
