AI-Powered Language Translation Technology Added To Police Body-Worn Cameras
The Howard County Sheriff's Office will be adding AI-powered language translation technology to their deputies' body-worn cameras.
HOWARD COUNTY, MD — The Howard County Sheriff's Office will implement AI-powered language translation technology into their body-worn cameras to provide real-time translations into more than 50 languages.
"(This) allows our deputies to communicate more effectively with community members who have limited English proficiency. By improving communication, we can better serve Howard County's diverse community while enhancing public safety and building stronger relationships," the sheriff's office stated.
Officials said the feature will help deputies communicate more effectively during traffic stops, court security operations, civil process interactions, warrant service and other public safety encounters.
