Former Howard Co. Teacher's Aide Sentenced For Sexually Abusing Student: Report
An Elkridge man was sentenced Monday after pleading guilty to sexually abusing a teenager he met on a dating app.
JESSUP, MD — William Nelson II, a 26-year-old paraeducator formerly employed by the Howard County Public Schools, was sentenced Monday to time served after pleading guilty to sexually abusing a student, according to reports.
Nelson, of Elkridge, was also ordered to five years of probation and required to register as a Tier II sex offender.
The sentencing decision came after Assistant State’s Attorney Maria Stamidis had asked the courts to sentence Nelson to 10 years in prison with all but three years suspended, The Banner reported.

Nelson had already served nearly nine months in prison.

Patch previously reported that Nelson was charged with third-degree sexual offense after an encounter with a 15-year-old student he had met through a dating app last November.
Nelson was placed on leave from the school system immediately after administrators became aware of the case.
