Raised Intersection, Speed Humps Proposed To Combat Speeding Along Columbia Roads
A few traffic calming initiatives are being proposed for two roads in Columbia to help slow down drivers.
COLUMBIA, MD — The community can attend an open house later this month to learn more about proposed traffic calming plans for Deepage Drive and Rustling Leaf.
The open house will be held Oct. 21 starting at 5 p.m. at Howard County's Office of Aging and Independence Office at 9830 Patuxent Woods Drive in Columbia.
Residents will hear more about the proposed installed of speed humps and speed hump signs along Deepage Drive, and a raised intersection along Rustling Leaf, both of which are designed to combat what officials say is excessive speeding by drivers along those roads. The strategies come from the Howard County Neighborhood Traffic Calming Policy.

"Through our Neighborhood Traffic Calming program, we are bringing more traffic calming solutions to neighborhoods to slow down speeds and improve safety across the county. Since we updated our Neighborhood Traffic Calming Policy last year, we have invested more than $1.3 million in neighborhood traffic calming projects across the county. When complete, these neighborhood streets in Columbia will be safer and more friendly for all road users," stated Howard County Executive Calvin Ball.
